BrightSign Brings Peppermill Resort’s Screens to Life
BrightSign Brings Peppermill Resort’s “Windows of the World” Digital Experience to Life
Overview
Peppermill Resort Spa Casino in Reno, Nevada, runs one of the most screen-rich environments in gaming. BrightSign players power all 120 direct-view LED displays behind the resort’s signature “Windows of the World” experience, plus roughly 500 LCDs for menu boards, signage, and video art across Peppermill’s Northern Nevada properties.
With BrightSign, content updates that once took a week are now automatic and streamlined.
The Challenge
“Windows of the World” is a library of more than 20,000 motion pictures filmed by Peppermill’s in-house media team in over 100 countries. The footage is slow and cinematic, built on subtle shifts in light and color, so every frame has to play without a flaw. Keeping hundreds of screens current was slow and labor-intensive, with each content refresh taking at least a week.
Key requirements were:
- Network efficiency: Streaming high-resolution footage to every display would have slowed the resort’s network.
- Fast updates: Restaurant menu items and prices change often and need to update quickly across many screens.
- Scalability: The platform had to support direct-view LED, portrait and landscape LCDs, video matrices, and touchscreens.
The Solution
Peppermill standardized on BrightSign players and worked directly with BrightSign engineers to design a setup built for its scale, where each player stores and plays content on its own instead of streaming it over the network.
BrightSign’s technology plays a central role throughout:
- Simple file networking, a built-in BrightSign feature, has each player check a central server on a set schedule and download new content automatically, with no manual uploads.
- Built-in storage on each player holds its content on a solid-state drive (SSD), played from a custom playlist. Only new files download, and playback continues even when the network underperforms.
- BrightSignOS™, an operating system built only for digital signage, keeps players running around the clock. With no fans or spinning hard drives, the hardware has no moving parts to fail.
Key Deployments
BrightSign players sit behind nearly every screen at Peppermill, powering guest experiences that run continuously without drawing attention to the technology behind them.
- “Windows of the World”: BrightSign players drive all 120 direct-view LED displays, presenting cinematic footage from around the globe in high resolution.
- LED columns: Large columns wrapped in drone footage are driven by a BrightSign player, with its signal routed across the columns over fiber-optic cable.
- 4K digital menus: Restaurant menus run in 4K so every line of text is legible, with items and prices updated instantly over the BrightSign network.
- Culinary art: Slow-motion food imagery captured on robotic camera rigs plays on 100 to 200 screens across the properties.
The Benefits
Moving to BrightSign streamlined processes for Peppermill’s media team and made the guest experience more consistent across every screen.
- Streamlined content updates, with new files reaching every screen automatically and no manual uploads.
- Uninterrupted playback and a lighter network load, since each player plays content from its own storage instead of streaming it.
- One platform for every screen type across the resort.
- More time for creative work, as the media team focuses on capturing content instead of distributing it.
Closing
With BrightSign running behind every screen, guests see the results, not the technology. “Windows of the World” plays smoothly even when the network slows, menus always show current prices, and new footage reaches the floor automatically.
